Clinical research at the Clinic for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery primarily focuses on mechanical circulatory support (VAD), extracorporeal circulation, coronary surgery, transplantation and valve surgery. Experimental research At the Institute for Clinical Research and Development, as well as in cooperation with the other Clinics and Institutes of the Heart and Diabetes Center NRW, basic and applied research are perfomed in the following fields: cardiovascular biotechnology, molecular biotechnology, stem cell research and tissue engineering.
