Following his study of Medicine at the Universities of Marburg, Houston (USA) and Dusseldorf, Dr. van Buuren came to the Clinic for Cardiology at the HDZ NRW from 1994 – 1996 to complete his internship (practical work experience) prior to qualifying for a license to practice medicine.

Senior physician Dr. Frank van Buuren

Following his study of Medicine at the Universities of Marburg, Houston (USA) and Dusseldorf, Dr. van Buuren came to the Clinic for Cardiology at the HDZ NRW from 1994 – 1996 to complete his internship (practical work experience) prior to qualifying for a license to practice medicine.

Following a further year as a resident physician, he then moved for 4 years of training in internal-pulmonological and in particular intensive care medicine to the intensive care unit at Lüdenscheid Hospital (University of Bonn). After a short period as a senior physician in the cardiological clinic of Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in London, Dr. van Buuren returned to the HDZ NRW in 2001, initially as a resident physician. In 2005 he was promoted to Senior Physician.

In addition to his medical duties, Dr. van Buuren is also the designated DRG Officer and Quality Management Officer of the Clinic for Cardiology at the HDZ NRW.
The research performed by Dr. van Buuren focuses on sports cardiology and the significance of physical activity for the onset, but also treatment of cardiac diseases.

With the support of the HDZ NRW, Dr. van Buuren completed an extra-occupational Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at the Universities of Ulm and Los Angeles. The title of his Masters thesis was "Steering patient flow in a cardiological clinic with particular focus on the DRG system".

Dr. van Buuren's work at the HDZ NRW currently focuses on invasive cardiology and angiology.
