 Senate of the University of Pécs in Hungary awards professorship to Dr. Otto Foit, CEO
Collaboration between the Hungarian University of Pécs and the Heart and Diabetes Center NRW, University Hospital of the Ruhr-University of Bochum, has been ongoing for years. Together with the former Chairman of the Board and Minister of State (ret’d), Hermann Heinemann, Foit has been instrumental in bringing the services provided by the Medical Faculty up to international standards, giving lectures and offering further training to both medical and nursing staff. An 18-strong delegation from the University of Saitama in Japan visited the Heart and Diabetes Center NRW. Prof. Kazutomo Minami MD PhD, Vice Director of the Clinic for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, welcomed his Japanese colleagues Prof. Ryozo Omoto MD, Medical Director of Saitama Medical School, and CEO Dr. Kijojuki Maruki, as well as five Japanese architects. On 15th January 2004, for the first time worldwide, Prof. Reiner Körfer, MD, Director of the Clinic for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the Heart and Diabetes Center NRW, together with his team of senior physicians, Dr. Michiel Morshuis, Dr. Aly El-Banayosy and Dr. Latif Arusoglu, implanted DuraHeart, the new centrifugal left-ventricular assist device.
